Rope & Shoot

Rope & Shoot rules are the same as the breakaway and Shooting rules, only the rider will carry one loop in this event.  No tying on your rope.   After you rope you must turn your horse to the right, turn the near barrel shoot 5 balloons.  Time stops when rider crosses finish line.  If you DO NOT turn your horse to the right it is a 10 second penalty.  A missed steer is a 15 second penalty added to the rider’s time.  Each missed balloon is a 5 second penalty.  There is a 5 second penalty for a broken barrier.

Once the loop has passed over the horns or head, it becomes catch as catch can. A figure 8 is an illegal catch or no time for that part of the run and will result in a 15 second penalty.
*Honest Attempt Rule: You must be able to run your horse out of the box, while swinging your rope and make an honest attempt to throw your rope at the steer. Absolutely no coming out of the box and just throwing your rope when you are not in range of the steer. As a result, you will receive a score of zero for the run, not the 15 second penalty. This is left at the discretion of the flagger and director.
Points and payout the same as the shooting.
